The general answer to that question is yes.  But there are some caveats.  Let me explain.

Human bodies have good bacteria which fight of infections.  This was a bit hard for me to understand at first, since I was brought up in a household where “germs were baaaddd.”

If you’re the same, stick with me.  If that good bacteria happens to get overwhelmed by the “bad” bacteria in our bodies, disease in the form of a yeast infection manifests itself.   And the one way good bacteria gets overwhelmed is to eat junky food, causes an environment in our blood where bad bacteria flourishes.

The types of foods that causes our bodies to let bad bacteria flourish are all the good things that make the American diet what it is:  processed foods, sugary food, artificial crap (pardon my French).  Today, I can say it’s so impossible to not eat these types of foods for a whole day, let alone several days.

If you have a yeast infection, or get them frequently, one yeast infection remedy is to introduce more natural foods, and significantly reduce or completely eliminate processed foods, and in particular processed sugar.  Yeast loves sugar, and if it doesn’t have any to consume, it can’t survive in the body.

When you eliminate processed sugar, your body will remain in what’s called an alkaline state, as opposed to an acidic state.  An acid state is the technical term that describes the environment where yeast infections will flourish.

An interesting food that helps your body with good bacteria is yogurt.  Yogurt contains intestinal flora good for your digestive system.  It will strengthen the body to protect it from existing and future yeast infections.  Unfortunately most yogurt sold in typical grocery stores have a high sugar content.  The best way to maximize the benefits of yogurt is to either eat it plain, or eat sugar-free yogurt.

This is all well and good you ask, but what if you have a yeast infection right now?  What’s the best cure?  Well that’s the caveat of natural food diets “curing” a yeast infection.  It doesn’t quite help you if you need relief now.  Of course, natural remedies are best, but short-term fixes are the subject of future articles.

The main point of this article is to emphasize the point that the only long-term yeast infection remedy is proper diet.  Vegetables, raw and unprocessed, are the absolute best foods, although not the easiest to eat in big quantities for some of us (including the author).  This will give your body the fuel it needs to operate in its natural, healthy state, from of not only yeast infections, but other kinds of ailments as well.

Why can’t you have sex while on yeast infection medication? What happens?

Because they medication needs to stay inside you to help you get over the infection. Sex can end up with more medication outside of you than inside. Also, you still have an infection and can pass it to your partner. This goes whether you are on a pill treatment or cream.

I have had frequent yeast infections and I have tried the Monistat 7-day cream pack, but it clearly hasn’t been strong enough. Don’t tell me I need to go to the doctor please, I’m not going to result to that for quite awhile. So if you could give me suggestions on a better yeast infection treatment, it’d be greatly appreciated.

The reason people say its best to see a doctor is because what many people simply call a "yeast infection," could actually be a bacterial or parasitic infection. A true yeast infection is fungal, like athlete’s foot. You really can’t effectively treat a vaginal infection without knowing what kind of bug you’re trying to kill. If its bacterial and you use Monistat, you knock out any fungus in there which might have been competing with the bacteria for resources, and now the bacterial infection and your symptoms are worse.

I personally have had more success with taking probiotics. Take an enteric-coated variety, and eat more fiber. You can even insert an acidophilus capsule into the business area for a day or two. That always helps me because even if its fungal, bacterial, or parasitic, the "good" bacteria seem to outcompete any offending bugs. You may also try a different antifungal, but if Monistat-7 didn’t work, I personally doubt a different brand would work any differently, but it all depends on the active ingredient and the dose.

Diflucan (fluconazole) tablets are effective for fungal yeast infections, but they are by prescription only so you’ll have to see a Dr. or visit a Planned Parenthood if you want to go that route. Good luck!

I wanted to know what kind of bath I can take to help with a Yeast Infection, like the burning, itching.

I have Cranberry pills and Cranberry concentrate. I was taking them because I had a UTI, and about 2 or 3 days later I got a yeast infection.

Will the cranberry stuff still work ?
It’s my second yeast infection and I also want to know how to keep them AWAY && UTIs. I have a terrible immune system,
I don’t wear tight clothes, I take baths not showers, I don’t eat heathy though.

Please help. :)

Hi,

The cranberry pills are good keep taking them, they’ll help with both infections.

I’ll give you some tips on what to do, as well I would consider researching Candida, as you say you have a weakened immune system. Every factor seems in play to resemble a picture of Chronic Candida, I’m sure at the very least if you target it effectively you won’t have to suffer from Yeast infections any more.

I’m sorry to say as well, the unhealthy eating has gotta change, you gotta make a choice whether feeling sick and suffering from yeast infections is worth eating tasty but unhealthy food.
There are many things you need to start doing and addressing if you are suffering from a yeast infection. To start, do the following:

1. Wear loose clothing and undergarments, oxygen kills yeast, going commando and wearing nothing down there if possible is even better.

2. Get some unsweetened yogurt and rub it onto a tampon, insert the tampon and do this continually until the yeast infection is gone.

3. Cut out any and all sugar, alcohol and yeast from your diet. All three will promote the infection further.

4. Start drinking cranberry juice, pure not from concentrate with no added sugar, I know this goes against the no sugar thing but the acid content in the cranberries will alter the PH balance of your vagina and cause the yeast to die off.

5. If you can tolerate it, use a raw garlic clove and apply it to the infection, this may burn so dilute it with some olive or coconut oil, both of which can also help eliminate the yeast, especially the coconut.

6. Lastly if all else fails, begin adding 2 cups of apple cider vinegar to a bath. Only fill the tub up high enough to submerge your genital area. Stay in the tub for 20-30 minutes at a time.

Hope this helps, the yogurt is the key really, by putting good bacteria directly on the area you will eliminate it quickly. Make sure it is unsweetened and ideally keep an eye out for a variation called Kefir which has even more beneficial bacteria in it to snuff out the infection.

When all is said and done I would suggest you research Candida and take a test to determine if you are suffering from it, as anyone who gets yeast infections has Candida, it’s just a matter of how bad it is.

has anyone tried that new home test kit for yeast infections, if so does it really work?

yes. It’s basically a ph testing strip. It can give you an idea if you are dealing with yeast versus bacterial vaginosis. But, if it’s your first time dealing with these types of infection, then you should just see your doctor. It’s so women can see if they should use the over the counter yeast medication, basically. They work. I’ve used it.

I had a total laparoscopic hysterectomy 10 days ago, I now have what I’m 99% sure to be a yeast infection. Can I use the usual medications to treat it? I’ve heard that you’re not supposed to put anything in the vagina until cleared?

Hi Andreah, My best advice to you is to use your common sense here…just call your doc. The doctor who performed your hysterectomy will be glad you called and they will let you know what is the safest bet. You have surely been put on an antibiotic from your surgery. This leaves your body low on healthy bacteria that usually would be eating the natural yeasts from the foods we eat. For now eat a yogurt (with active cultures) which contain a very small level of healthy bacteria, and call your doctor they will let you know what is right for you. Heres to the amazing ecosystem the human body!! Good luck.
