Archive for treatment for yeast infection

I was diagnosed with a yeast infection, and started treatment Wednesday night. I started using the Monistat, and continue to use it, but have also taken the oral medication too. How long does it normally take for the yeast infection to go away? Thanks for your help!
How long will it take for the burning and itching to go away. It’s still red and sore and itchy.

Treatments can vary from 1 to 3 to 7 days depending upon the strength of the dosage. Just follow the dosing schedule on the included literature for whichever one you purchased. Even after treatment it may take a day or two for all the discharge to be emitted as your body sheds the infection. If the infection recurs or comes back after a few days, consult with your OB/GYN as you may require a stronger prescription and to also rule out other possible complications.

iso lets say ya have 2 NON expired 7 day treatment yeast infection cures(creams). would ya use both for 7 days? are they going to work the same?one is clotrimazole and the other terconazole….now what?

I would only use one. You don’t want to risk the drugs somehow interacting with each other or making each other ineffective. Try the one and if it doesn’t work see a doctor for a prescription so that they can see what strand it is or try the other brand.

I have a yeast infection, but I don’t have insurance so I can’t go see a doctor.
I was searching the net, & apparently there is a lot of controversy about Monistat, etc.
I was just wondering if anyone has used an OTC treatment to cure the infection, and if so, which one?
Thanks so much. :)

My doc told me (last time I had one) that the OTC is potentially better than the antiobiotic a doc would give. She instructed to me use one 3-7 day kit, then wait a week (no sex) and do another 3-7 day kit. There are also other methods that are supposed to be helpful at health food stores. Google for other ideas. ( I did not use the Monistat, I just got the store brand.) I dont like antibiotics and am against thier use unless absolutely no other way!!!

My friend (not me>_<) has a vaginal yeast infection and she has been using vagasil disposable wipes and she wants to know if there is anything better to use? Also if douching would be a good idea?

Douching is the opposite of a good idea. Douching is one of the major CAUSES of yeast infections. Also, the vagisil disposable wipes don’t cure a yeast infection and say as much in the packaging. They’re only meant to relieve the symptoms on the outer vulva while you are getting treated. You need Monistat. Don’t use the one day despite the temptation for quick relief. it’s just a waste. The three day is OK, but the 7 day is really the one that works.

She also can get diflucan, a prescription pill, from her doctor, but i still think the 7 day Monistat is better.

That being said, it really sounds like her first yeast infection, in which case you really have to see a doctor because most people who think its yeast actually have bacteria and treating it with an OTC yeast treatment will make the bacteria worse and make future yeast harder to treat.

My OB told me to use Monistat cream and that I can not take the magic pill due to my pregnacy and I want to know if Monistat has worked for anyone else.

eat a lot of plain (unflavored) yogurt, too.

My dog had a yeast infection when I brought her home from the breeder. The veterinarian said that it could have been caused by water getting into the ear. My dog has floppy ears, so this is probably what happened. Her yeast infection was bad, so the Vet cleaned her ear out and sent me home with some drops that I put into her ear each day for about 2 weeks. It cleared up fine and I have had no problems since, since I really watch her ears when I bathe her.

I’m 33 weeks preg. today and I know infections can cause premature labor this late which is why I need help fast! I was diagnosed w/ a yeast infection and prescribed a 3-day suppository. I’ve heard 3 day treatments don’t work during preg. and that what I was prescribed can cause birth defects (although so rarely it’s not considered a risk…not good enough for me). The clinic where I go has proven incompetant many times (I have no other choice, so I really can’t do anything but do most of my own research, which is why I ask a lot of questions here), and I don’t trust them with this. Are vinegar or baking soda baths safe/effective during pregnancy? Does anyone else know of a non-drug treatment which is safe while pregnant? For those who will attack me, I am not going against doctors’ orders and being neglegent…I’m honestly trying to do what’s best for my baby’s health, which is not always what is advised by these docs. Thanks to everyone who offers advice.

Sweetie, listen. when your pregnant your body goes thru so many different changes it crazy but when i was pregnant i did get , a very common in pregnancy, an infection. it was kind of a yeast infection, cause it had all the syptoms but it was and actual "yeast infection" . My obgyn gave me a suppository, just like yours, for 3 days and the infection is gone. I got this infection twice.

My son is 100% health and he’s great. Im pretty sure that a doctor or clinic would give you anything that would harm you baby. Believe me when i say that i know what your going through. You want everything to be perfect with your baby. but im pretty sure that what you have is what i had.

take ur medication and it would go away in 3 days.

My doctor gave me these gel ups to use for my yeast infection and a one time pill. Soon enough towards the end of my treatment i noticed a little pink when i wiped and when i was done with the 7 day treatment it became brown. My bestest idea would be that this is blood, but i want to know why! Should i worry? Can this be a period? this has been happening for a week now. Theres no itch, smell, or pain of anykind. What Sould i do.

Are you sure it’s blood? It could be the last of the cream coming out that you inserted for the yeast infection itself. It could be your period. Are you just now starting for the first time? The very first periods sometimes do come with spotting here and there and not having monthly periods.
It has happened to me before, I did nothing and it went away.
I don’t think you should worry.

i was taking antibotics for a uti and now it seems like i have a yeast infection. i have never had one before but i am pretty sure that is what this is. i have an appt tomorow so of course i will see what he has to say. but i need to do some thing now. I heard that eating yogurt works is that true? and can i take the over the counter stuff while pregnant? thanks

YES!! I never had yeast infections until I got pregnant. The first time I used a three day treatment and it came back in two weeks, the second time I used the seven day treatment and I never had one again, I have a healthy and beautiful little girl. I know your Doctor will give you something for it, but I just didn’t feel like driving all the way up there and missing work over a yeast infection, but you do need to have it taking care of either way…. GL!!

On Monday I started a yeast infection treatment. (over-the counter medicine) The treatment is to be used 7 nights straight.

I’m just curious: even if the infection is cleared up after the 7 night treatment is used, should I try something else right after (home remedy) to safeguard it? Or just wait and see if the medicine works?

If you want to help prevent future infections, I would start taking an acidophilous tablet, even just once a day. You don’t need to wait until the end of the OTC treatment. I like the Nature Made refrigerated ones, but whatever. Rebuilding that good bacteria in your body will help prevent yeast infections and also keep your digestive track healthy.
