Archive for yeast infection test

It seems like I always get yeast infections and I’m starting to wonder if it’s not actually yeast. My doc usually says it’s yeast, but I’ve never gotten a second opinion. Are there any other conditions, illnesses that might cause the same symptoms to occur as a yeast infection? I’ve been tested for STDs, so it’s not that. I’m just really frustrated with this and want this problem to go away! It’s hurting my relationship because I can never be intimate with my bf.
I eat yogurt every day, and use non scented hypoallergenic soaps.
I do not wear tight clothes, and I always wear cotton panties.

I guess it depends on what specific symptoms you are referring to. Itch ,irritation, and a burning sensation can have multiple causes. Yeast is fairly easy to confirm by vaginal swab and culture as well as the type of discharge…. usually a curdled discharge is indicative of yeast but there may not be much of a discharge and would only be seen by a physician using a speculum on exam. As far as itch, irritation and burning, make sure of your personal habits are not adding to the problem or are the real cause being blamed on yeast.

1. Do not use perfumed agents on the skin or anywheres near the groin because what you may be experiencing is in actuality an allergic reaction to those agents.
2. Do not use Bounch or other fabric softeners on underware for the same reason.
3. If you have very hard water or a water softener, not all the soap may be removed in the rinse cycle of the wash. When the machine stops, turn it all the way over to rinse again and add a full cup of white (clear) vinegar to the water. It is an acid and will neutralize base soaps and allow them to be removed easily from clothing. Otherwise a single drop of urine or vaginal moisture release onto the fabric will re-activate the soaps and then migration to the soft tissue causing more itching and irritation.
4. Don’t wear tight clothing that would cause mechanical irritation from walking especially if you are overweight which will accentuate the mechanical irritation.
5. Use a good sterile personal lubricant again without fragrance or gental warming gels. Use this every time for sex to prevent mechanical irritation from the get go.KEEP it simple so that what you do does not cloud the waters and cause their own harm.
6. Never use mineral oil or vaseline as a lubricant. It is actually a petroleum distallate and for some people is just as irritating as using gasoline. (plus the fact is may dissolve latex)
7. Make sure you do not have an allergy to latex if hopefully you are using condoms.
8. Spermicidal jellies can also be a source for irritation If one type is causing a problem, ask for a different formula that hopefully is not as irritating.
9. Make sure your bf takes a shower before sex especially if he is not circumcised and no condom is used. Mechanical irritation to rough up a soft tissue surface followed a smear of foreign bacteria from under a foreskin or from poor hygiene on his part can cause you to suffer. It always amazes me how many men use a public restroom, pee and never wash their hands. If that is a standard of behavior, it follows that other health habits can be poor.
10. Take a shower not a bath but if you must take baths, limit them to once a day and less than 10 minutes. Long term soaking in the tub can remove the body’s own lubrication from vaginal tissue and expose the nerve endings in the tissue causing itch and burning.
11. Avoid bubble baths for the same reason. If you disturb the natural barrier of mucous and the upper epithelial lining of these tissues, when you urinate, the salty urine will draw fluid from the lower tissue layers causeing an immediate burning sensation that will last until what remains on the labia is diluted by your own moisture.
12. when wiping the area, use a non-sented toilet paper and pat… do not rub
13. After a shower, use a hair dryer and dry the pubic area before getting dressed. A lot of moisture will cling to the hair and activate soaps, dyes and fragrances before you even start your day.
14. Do not use scented tampons and change more frequently.

These are the mechanical and allergy preventing steps you can take to maintain good genital health and prevent irritation and burning that mimick yeast infections. Most also work for men to avoid jock itch and allergies. It is just more prevalent in women due to exposed mucosal membranes of the labia. Hope that helps

No. It would have to produce the hcg hormone.

i’m fifteen and i think i have a yeast infection. i told my mom and shes like making me go to the doctor & im reallyyy scared. i wanted to just get medicine for it and use it by myself without a doctor but she wont let me.
so this week im going to the doctor and im just wondering what is the doctor gonna do? im really nervous so can someone tell me what its gonna be like?

thanks :)

Don’t be scared! It’s not a fun experience but it’s not scary. If you’re a virgin (and I hope you are! lol) ask them to use the small speculum, which is a device that opens your vagina for the doctor to examine you. This sounds scarier than it actually is. I’m 25 and I still make them use the small speculum on me. They will swab the inside of your vagina and look at the sample under the microscope to see if there is any yeast present. If so, they will give you antibiotics or you can buy Monistat. It’s best to see the doctor before using any medicine yourself, in case you have something other than a yeast infection, like bacterial vaginosis – also easily cured with Flagyl and you can have it even if you’re a virgin.

The last time I had yeast infection, I had to use 3 rounds of Monistat (first Monistat1, then Monistat3, then Monistat7). That was over a year ago. That time I was prescribed with a higher dosage of antibiotics. I was also on birth control ( I still am).

So around a month and a half ago, after a round of rough sex with my boyfriend, I developed a yeast infection again (I read that injuries to the vagina can also cause yeast infection). I’m currently working overseas so Monistat is not available. I went to the doctor, she gave me around 2 weeks worth of medication including oral and vaginal tablets, as well as some cream to ease the itching. My boyfriend bought OTC medication just in case (he didn’t experience any symptoms).

I finished the medication, stopped having sex, but after a few days the yeast infection came back. I bought OTC medication, finished them, and the infection disappeared for a day or two and then it came back.

It’s not itching like crazy, it’s not really bothering me, but I know it’s still there as I have some discharges and still itchy. When I went to the doctor last time, she took some samples for a lab test and confirmed that it was yeast infection.

So now my question is, I’ve been reading about Gonorrhea and the symptoms are pretty similar to that of a yeast infection. If I had a lab test to confirm the yeast infection, could it be possible that I have Gonorrhea too????? Gosh I’m so freaking out right now! Why is the medication not working??

My doctor said I have a weak immune system and that I’m on the pill so the yeast infection might be harder to get rid of, and "therefore we will attack it more aggressively with the medication I prescribe to you". But noooo….

Another thing is, I do my laundry at the laundry store, including my thongs and panties and intimates. Is it possible that their machines are dirty and the germs got onto my underwear and caused the yeast infection??

What should I do next??

My symptoms:
– vaginal discharge (whitish greenish cottage cheese)
– itching around the vagina opening (not unbearable)
– no burning or pain while urinating
– I’ve stopped having sex but it feels like if I were to have sex right now, it would hurt
I was tested positive for Chlamydia around 5 months ago. I took the pills and never got retested again. I asked my doctor last time and she said I didn’t really need to be retested if I took the medication. Should I see another doctor?

Hello,

If you’ve read up on gonorrhoea, you should have found out that it is passed on in a more "definitely" sexual way, than yeast infections are.

In yeast infections, no-body really bothers much about where the yeast germ *came* from, – - yeast germs are everywhere, – - but on the other hand, in gonorrhoea infections the germ *must* have come from one of your sexual partners, there is no other possibility.

So in gonorrhoea infections, your sexual partner becomes a very important part of the equation.

The other thing is, that in gonorrhoea, the man usually gets a lot more pain, painful discharge and general trouble, – than the girl does. A man who has gonorrhoea really knows about it; a girl who has gonorrhoea may not know, because the infection may be deeper inside, at the neck of her womb.

I think if your boyfriend is the only one you have had sex with in the last, say, 4 weeks, AND he has had no symptoms at all, (you say he hasn’t), – - then the likelihood of your having gonorrhoea is small.

It isn’t non-existent, and I can’t give you any absolute guarantee, – - you would need to put the same question in person to your doctor. Your doctor would then have to take swab-tests from your water-pipe, (where you say you have no symptoms), and also from the neck of your womb inside.

It’s not impossible to have a yeast infection and gonorrhoea both at the same time, but it would be less common. The symptoms you do have, fit "better" with a yeast infection, than with gonorrhoea, in my opinion.

Repeated yeast infections are not uncommon, however strong or weak your immune system is, – - but if you get repeated or "difficult" yeast infections, then most doctors think you should also have your water tested for sugar. This is because sugar in the urine, (i.e. having "sugar diabetes"), makes yeast infections of the vagina more common.

Also, being on the Pill can make yeast infections of the vagina slightly more common.

Yeast infections treatments, do not make gonorrhoea better at all. You say your treatments have made you better, (temporarily).

Whether or not you have gonorrhoea, I would recommend that every time you make love, you should lubricate it specifically with Canesten cream or Nystan cream or similar. Just a dab or two on your boyfriend’s penis, you could make it all part of the fun. Oh, even if he is using his own spit as a penis-lubricant, or even if you both like M-to-F oral sex – - I just suppose he doesn’t have Thrush in his mouth, might be worth asking him?? : )

If you’re having vigorous or "rough" sex, then some extra lubricant is a good idea anyway. No reason to get sore if you don’t have to. Not all girls get vast amounts of lubrication when they’re sexually excited.

I doubt if it’s on your clothes after the Launderette. No, really.

I hope this is of some help.

Best wishes,

Yeast infection or bladder infection, one of the two. I know they aren’t STD’s. I just want to know they can find STD’s in the urine without looking for the bacteria?

well they usually just check for stds also while they check what kind of bacteria you have to get you the right antibioltics.

i have no itching or discomfort only a funny smelling odor. know it’s not a sti as i have not had sex in almost 3 years and before that i had a physical done and did not have any sti’s.
could it be a yeast infection or something else. also i’ve heard that they have these test things almost like the pregnancy test but for yeast infections if anyone has used them do you know how much they cost around?
thanks

A yeast infection sometimes has an odor resembling yeast or beer. But if you don’t have itching or discomfort, it seems like it could be Bacterial Vaginosis. Because usually yeast infection are really irritating. Bacterial Vaginosis has an odor of "fish", and may have a white/gray discharge.

Can a doctor tell if you masturbate after you haven’t done it for a month if you get tested for a yeast infection. Can masturbation by rubbung cause a yeast infection. what causes a yeast infection.

oh boy, yeast infections, a familar subject. lol. i’ve had many. okay first off, yeast infections can happen any where that there is moisture and heat. not only can you have vaginal yeast infections, but you can have yeast infections in your mouth, between your breasts, etc….anywhere warm and wet. a lot of different things can cause a yeast infection. for me, some foods i eat or pops i drink cause it. if you have just been on your period, the pads you wore could have caused it. a lot of stuff can do it. you can help a yeast infection with store bought products (vaginal creams for yeast infections and witch hazel to help with the itching.) your doctor can prescribe medicences (either a cream or a pill) i’ve found that store bought cream is just as good as the prescriptions stuff. Believe it or not, balmex or other diper rash med. can help too. but it really burns at first. make sure you have yeast infection and not a kidney infection. (kidney infections usually burn when you pee). hope that helps and feel better soon! :D

does it really work? if so what is the brand so i know what to be looking for..? and does it really tell you if its possibly bv? its not JUST for yeast infections right?

Check with your Pharmacist. I believe the test does check for both yeast and bv.

I know it seems like a dumb question but had to ask ..I’ve been usin monistat for a yeast infection and I’ve been late on my period I took a pregnacy test and it showed one line for sure and the other was slightly there..I was jiss wondering could that b a reason? And I’ve been havin symptoms like I’m about to get my period like bad cramps and sore boobs but I’m over a week late..any tips will help and I DONT need smart remarks thank u

Pregnancy tests look for pregnancy hormones, not fungal infections. You got a positive. Take another one tomorrow to be sure.
